I started the day with a stone clear and what a treat awaited me. The crop had been harvested and the machinery had disturbed the soil and there were riches beyond all imagination just lying on the surface. It was raining, but that could not dampen the fire in my stone-clearing heart (an extra organ that all true stone clearers possess) and the moisture just helped get the stones out of the ground. Last time the arid genitals of the field had clamped hard around the stones, but now the stones were loose and hard and huge. Stone clearing is always sexy, but today it was a bit sexier than usual. Have a listen. No wanking. Listen here.
I had planned to go for a run as well, but I continued to be crushed by exhaustion - this is of course very normal post Fringe, as you finally relax a bit and all the tensions work their way out. Some help with the childcare means we have some time to ourselves and it turns out that my body has decided that time should be used with sleeping. Not at night time - that would be ridiculous, but this afternoon I conked out.  It was an unsatisfying sleep that did me no good.

Otherwise I read or listened to bits of a few books that I have on the go, either for the Book Club or in case I can persuade the author to be on Book Club. I tried out Jennette McCurdy’s “I’m Glad My Mom Died”, more for fun than for any real hope of getting her on the podcast (but you never know). It’s a short book, but it’s good writing and an interesting if heartbreaking story which one might glibly describe as a reminder to parents to not live their own dreams out through their children. I think there will be a bit more to it than that but it’s an honest portrayal of Jennette’s rather innocent childhood and the huge emotional damage created by a man who she loved, but who nonetheless abused her in horrible ways. If you wonder why so many child stars go off the rails and have problems in adulthood then this book will help you understand.  She’s as engaging an author as she is a performer, yet that spark is what led to her success, which led to more issues. I wouldn’t have been aware of her or this story but for the chance encounter with her work via my kids, just at a time when she was publishing this book. I hope she makes more money from it than she would have done if she’d signed the agreement to not talk about the creator of the shows she starred in. As the book is top of the US best sellers I suspect that she might. I hope it gets a bit brighter towards the end. Give it a try.

I struggled on trying to find a guest who might sell some tickets for the September 5th RHLSTP. What would really help is if people just bought tickets to all the shows, rather than the big name ones. I think you used to do this pre pandemic and pre economic catastrophe (and I appreciate why you might not want to in the current circumstances). I don’t think I really have to panic until next week. I know I will get someone great, though not necessarily super famous. It’s an odd little waiting game, though the two sold out (or nearly sold out) shows are all star affairs, so that will make up for some relatively quiet ones. And we will live stream the sold out ones too (details soon). Links as always here.
