97 hard mode Wordles in a row successfully completed. In the hospital at 12.03 I found myself with only one turn left, but luckily there was only one possible word. It was a cinch. 98 in a row (if you count getting it in 6 as a success).
Phoebe stayed up late with me tonight to watch the football, though I think she might have been more interested in the snacks and thrill of being up past her bedtime than the actual football. But she’s a decent footballer herself and can kick a ball pretty hard and with some accuracy, so hopefully the heroics of the lionesses will inspire her. I’d been talking to a man at the party on Saturday who said he thought that women’s football wasn’t very good, but seemed aware that you’re not meant to say that. Sports fan Norman Pace had stepped in to say that he thought that was wrong and that the players were very skilful. Good on him. He may have once microwaved a cat but he’s right on the button.
He’s right too - this was a highly entertaining match with some amazing passing and one of the most audacious goals you’ll ever see in your life. The nutmegged keeper might have felt embarrassed, but no one could really have expected a back heeled shot at that point. There was an element of good fortune for that one to go in, but what was impressive was the confidence and cockiness to even attempt it. Russo almost nutmegged two players with this shot which is the only thing that could have made it better. Well if she’d nutmegged all eleven players that would have been better. Yeah thinking about it, the goal was disappointingly vanilla.
It was cool to be having a daddy-daughter night (Catie and Ernie had gone to bed) and I think Phoebe is gradually coming to realise that whilst I am no mummy, I have some good qualities. Mainly that I let her have ice cream and crisps when she’s already had dinner, but that’s still something.
