The kids have been listening to the Proclaimers' I'm Going to Be (500 miles) and marching around the kitchen a lot. So I've been listening to it along. And though the Proclaimers are rubbish at doing the proper Scotch accent (almost offensive to be honest), it's a brilliant love song, pop song and regular song. It's properly romantic and passionate and mainly realistic. The Proclaimers will go out and work and give almost every penny to their partner(s?), which is more honest than saying every penny. You also get a feeling that the Proclaimers like each other more than they'd ever like anyone else, but it's still a fabulous song and sentiment.
I just wonder it their partner/partners has ever called them out on it.
Go on then Proclaimers, let's see you do it. Walk 500 miles and then 500 more. I don't mind if you use the second 500 to come back here from wherever the first 500 took you, or you can just walk 1000 miles and get a bus back. But you said you would and I think you should.
Aye, but listen, it were jus a figure of speech, mon.
Stop talking in that ridiculous accent guy/guys. It's a bit offensive. You've done all the other stuff you said you'd do, except maybe not the havering. I mean you might have done that, but I don't know what it is. But you haven't done the walking 1000 miles to prove how much you love me and I've decided I'd just like to check, so off you pop.
I mean they'd have to do it right. They said they'd would.
On checking the internet I see that lots of people have asked if it's possible to walk 500 miles from Leith (of course it fucking is, no one said it was in a straight line or 500 miles away, they could just walk around the block with a pedometer or did Captain Tom not walk all the distance you monsters) but nobody lets me know if anyone has actually called the Proclaimers bluff. You'd think at some point the fuckers would at least have done a sponsored walk for charity.
It's a brilliant song nonetheless and the kids larking around to it is the first great memory of Lockdown 3.
