Bad news today as I heard my tour manager has come down with glandular fever so I will be doing the last three gigs of the tour solo. Luckily none of them are too far away. And at least I don't have glandular fever (well hopefully). Sad to see Welsh Ray go, but perhaps it's apt that I do my last bit of my last tour for a while on my own.
It was another day of watching old RHLSTPs and trying to come up with emergency questions. I struggled a little bit in the day, with something like 125 questions to go, but again, once everyone was early to bed, I sat up and knocked out something. And then I got the computer out and carried on with the questions. Come on. That's genius. I implied I was wanking. I haven't lost it.
But seriously I was knocking out questions. Never masturbate just before working in bed. It just makes you fall asleep. You know, I imagine.
But it's true that masturbation, whilst once the greatest thing I was capable of doing, is now just an anaesthetic.
But I didn't masturbate. I wrote questions. Why is everyone accusing me of wanking?
Hopefully I can get the work done in time for the deadline tomorrow but my editor is on holiday so I think I might have the weekend to tidy up (the manuscript, not all the wank. I am not wanking as I write this).

We'e been watching “Wild, Wild Country on Netflix (slowly) over the last few weeks and finally polished it off today. It's an interesting story of what constitutes good and evil and what makes a cult and whether you just don't notice the cult that you're in. It also shows that if you find enough gullible and broken people, or offer them something that no one else is giving them, that you can have amazing power. Again, it's not just the cult that makes you realise this.
In some ways the cult at the heart of it seems like a perfect place: the followers of the Bhagwan certainly seem to be very happy, screwing each other and I'd imagine from the look in their eyes, having some drugs (but maybe faith is the drug). Hardly anyone, even years later, wants to fully admit they were wrong and have all weaved a story so that they come out OK.
And even within the supposedly peaceful and free cult, the usual human vanities, ambition and willingness to do harm to get what they want still surfaces.
It's a wonderful window into the human psyche and leaves you wondering if you yourself are as blindly in your own cult and unable to see the truth of how your life is working. Of course no one in a cult would consider that possibility, which means you're not in a cult. But then someone in a cult would tell themselves that.

The penultimate filmed RHLSTP of series 13 (a couple of audio specials to come) is now up in the usual places, with the team from the My Dad Wrote A Porno podcast (including the extremely funny Alice Levine who is on the current series of Taskmaster)
