I tried to avoid Loyd Grossman's inane chatter by walking up the stairs at Covent Garden tube this morning. Did I run a Marathon six months ago? It nearly killed me. But death is preferrable to Loyd Grossman giving me his opinion on local museums (it might have been the theatre museum he liked by the way, but it's hard to tell with that accent).
Writing TWTTIN was a real struggle today. We'd left things a bit late (just in case any last minute bits of history came in in the last few hours) and it was a rush to get it all together. We were all tired and unable to tell what was amusing anymore and in the read throughs I'd pretty much convinced myself that it was going to be a disaster.
It went much better than I'd expected, but we had a slightly restless audience cos there were more students in than usual and I think they'd turned up expecting a regular comedy gig (the show is recorded in ULU student union). I thought it hadn't been a great one, but people afterwards seemed to like it better than the others (I think the first one was still the best). It made me keen to work a bit harder and in more advance next week. It's a bit stupid to put yourself through this kind of mental anguish for no reason.
Got a cab home and my taxi driver blamed the immigrants for the current pensions scandal. I suggested that maybe the government's warmongering might have been responsible for the shortfall in money, but he was insistent. I couldn't really be bothered to argue, as it was clear he wasn't going to change his mind. It made me wish for a second that all cab journeys were accompanied by a tape of Loyd Grossman pointing out nice museums and suggesting pasta recipes.
